Fixing the fueling is simply with a booster plug, or a flash to fix it and the injector cutoff. Once you get it going, it's much happier. On the other hand, it is *super* fun to take out on twisty roads or highways. The clutch basket is one, fueling is another, the decel injector cut a third. Rattling when in neutral and clutch engaged, roughness at low-rpm/minimal throttle, a very klunky front end when going over bumps, a fairly twitchy throttle in general, and a constant feeling of it really wanting more throttle if you're not currently accelerating. I've had way worse, of course, but there's a cross section of issues that while either they don't affect everyone equally or people are not equally sensitive to, but they're very common. If you follow facebook groups and this forum, the riders who say their 900 is that smooth are a small minority. Seeing this makes me think that this engine is actually quite delicate and there are lots of small issues going around. Still I had two dealers ride it and they said it was normal (within the warranty period).

The tracer however is never smooth and only pleasant to ride in high RPM's above the buzzing range. The 650 had character and could be abrupt so I had to learn to be smooth on the throttle but it felt completely normal and a lot of fun. Not bad.Was your Versys a 1000 or 650? My 2019 Versys 650 was a lot smoother and I imagine the 4 cylinder 1000 will be a lot smoother still. And I got a hat and t-shirt, so swag to boot. Since this bike sucks up premium gas like it’s going out of style, I appreciate that. And it seems that there’s more hp at any given speed so the engine revs lower to achieve the same speed as before the flash, hence better mileage. Vibration is substantially reduced too, almost like an electric motor. Maintaining speed and accelerating in top gear feels effortless like it’s not working hard anymore. Shifting is easier and smoother, especially from 1st gear into 2nd, and downshifting is smoother as well. No more engine grab when I let go of the throttle. Way less stress on me in stop-and-go situations.
